About

Hi - my name is Joseph Merrill and I'm a dad, outdoor adventurer, and fintech generalist / builder / investor in SF. 

Lately, I've been working on a project called Strata - a marketplace where doctors find and compare practice listings and professional resources for their clinical operations. Thousands of dentists, doctors, optometrists, and veterinarians rely on Strata for their research on practice ownership opportunities as well as foundational products and services for their practices.

Prior to founding Strata, I was the Head of Product and Data at Provide - a lender and financial services provider to doctors and private healthcare practices. I joined Provide in 2015 as one of the first employees, designed and built a number of infrastructure and process components, and grew the company through a variety of roles to a 250+ person organization with a $4B+ practice and commercial real estate portfolio (<15bps loss rate) and $1B+/year loan origination rate. 

Following Series A and B financing rounds (led by QED), Provide was acquired by Fifth Third Bank in August 2021. 

Beyond fintech, I enjoy skiing, paragliding, free diving / spearfishing, motorcycling, building, cooking, exploring, and taking pictures of all of these adventures. I'm currently learning how to wing foil.
